Why I Am Running

Elect Jasper “Jay” Jackson for City of Compton Treasurer
The City of Compton has not recovered from the recession and we need a strong skilled treasurer who will be watchful in protecting the public’s money. I will be a strong voice for fiscal sanity and responsibility on all issues affecting public funds.

In order for the city to recover from the economy, we must drive the expenses down. Major focus needs to be placed on paying the city bills on time to avoid the late fees that the city has become accustomed to paying. It is this type of mismanaging of the city funds that attributes to the city’s shortfalls. I understand city finances and I am capable of ensuring that our revenues are properly expended as well as properly invested to achieve these goals.
The City of Compton adheres to established standards and practices with strong oversight controls. A strong reserve fund is important to handle future needs.  As a paralegal, I accumulated more than 20 years private sector financial experience. These experiences include collecting revenue, preparing first and final accounts amongst many other financial responsibilities.  Most importantly, my experiences have afforded me a strong value system and a determination to lead with integrity.
If elected treasurer, my main goal would be to protect and manage our city's funds by following the city charter. I will ensure that the council has all adequate information to approve a balanced budget.  I will ensure that the City of Compton make wise financial choices for our city. Most of all, I will work with the city council to generate and bring revenue to our city.
